Day 1: Arrival
Arrive in Paro. Transfer to hotel and rest. Afternoon acclimatization walk. Evening briefing about the Black-Necked Crane Festival - a unique celebration focused on conservation rather than religion. Overnight: Paro
Day 2: Paro Sightseeing
Visit Paro Dzong, National Museum, and Kyichu Lhakhang. Explore Paro town and markets. Evening preparation for journey to Phobjikha. Overnight: Paro
Day 3: Paro to Phobjikha Valley
Drive to Phobjikha valley (5-6 hours) via Thimphu and Dochula Pass. The route crosses the Black Mountains into this pristine glacial valley. Phobjikha (3,000m) is the winter home of endangered Black-Necked Cranes that migrate from Tibet (November-March). The valley is a protected wildlife sanctuary. Visit Gangtey Monastery and Black-Necked Crane Information Centre learning about conservation efforts. Evening nature walk searching for cranes in the marshlands. Overnight: Phobjikha
Day 4: Festival Day
The Black-Necked Crane Festival is held annually on November 11th at Gangtey Monastery courtyard. This community festival celebrates the cranes' arrival and promotes conservation awareness. Local school children perform "crane dances" wearing costumes - adorable and heartwarming. Folk songs and traditional dances celebrate the valley's natural heritage. Environmental education programs, local handicraft stalls, and cultural performances create a festive atmosphere. Day 5: Phobjikha Valley Exploration
